BERKS County blew a two-goal lead as they drew 2-2 at home to Taplow United in the Premier Division, writes Richard Ashton.

The Swords had taken control of the contest courtesy of an own goal and a Josh Dillon strike inside the opening 20 minutes, but the visitors hit back in the second half.

A slick passing move involving James Murdoch, Jordan Jawandha and Simon Murtagh resulted in the latter firing home from 20 yards

after 55 minutes.

And a bullet header from Murdoch with a quarter of an hour remaining helped United earn a share of the spoils.

In Division Two, Marlow United Reserves hammered Eldon Celtic 4-1 to move level on points with Westwood United Reserves at the top of the table.

Playing with a strong wind behind them, visiting Marlow took an early lead as Mark Rowley found space on the right and his cross found the head of Andrew Nichol, who guided the ball home from five yards.

United never looked back after that and they increased their lead on 15 minutes as Arron Clarke stooped low to head a head home a Ryan Malone long throw from the left.

The visitors were indebted to keeper Tom Henderson who three times thwarted the Celtic forwards, but Marlow continued to create chances, Rowley having an effort ruled out for off side on 30 minutes.

They scored the third on 38 minutes with Nichol controlling a ball on the right of the area before twisting past his marker and firing into the net.

Marlow began the second half impressively, Nichol firing wide when through on goal, and they increased their lead on 49 minutes as Matt Letts met a corner from Rowley to head home from close range.

And despite Eldon Celtic hitting a 75th-minute consolation, Marlow cruised to victory.

Goring United won 4-2 at Barkham Athletic.

White Eagles took over at the top of Division Three following a comfortable 4-0 success at home to Wargrave Reserves.

Lukasz Hryniewicz, Bartosz Pachulski and Mateusz Krochmal put the hosts 3-0 up before the break, and Hryniewicz’s 52nd-minute strike sealed a comfortable victory.

James Edwards came off the bench to give AFC Aldermaston Reserves a 1-0 win at Finchampstead Reserves.

Maidenhead Magpies crushed Hazelmore Reserves 8-0 in the Wycombe Junior Cup, while Penn & Tylers Green A overcame Harchester Hawks 3-0.

Charlie Scope netted for Hurst A in a 5-1 loss at FC Leisure.

In Division Five, Lloyd Sayers scored twice and Stewart Cullen, Thomas Etheridge, Alexander Wescott and James Hudson were also on target as AFC Baughurst Reserves won a 10-goal thriller 6-4 at Goring United Reserves.

A total of 20 games across the league’s six divisions were postponed due to a shortage of available referees.

A league statement said: “Given the unprecedented situation, the league officers reluctantly decided to postpone all TVPL league fixtures for November 7, where no County FA affiliated referee was appointed, either by the league or through the efforts of clubs.”

l Oliver Knowles has been appointed as Berks County's new first team manager.

Chairman Richard Lloyd had taken the role on a caretaker manager basis since Zak Spencer stepped down in the summer.

Knowles had been working with Lloyd & Spencer during the last 18 months as assistant Manager following a career-ending injury in the 2014 pre-season.

Knowles, Lloyd and Spencer had all earned their coaching qualification and early experience together under the guidance of Tom Hogan, Mark Whiffin and ex Wycombe manager Jim Kelman.

Lloyd said: “Ollie has been working closely with myself with a view to taking on the side eventually, we agreed that the time was right to make the change. Ollie taking over gives the club consistency at a time when we have improved year on year

at Step 7”.
