WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook’s tale of woe continued on Saturday when their long trip to Gloucestershire led to a 4-0 reverse at the hands of Tuffley Rovers.

It was their 11th successive Hellenic Premier defeat and they remain firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with just four points from 17 games.

Once again the Sumas were not at full strength with a remarkable 20 players being unavailable for the first team and reserves.

Yet they put up stiff resistance against Tuffley and there was just a minute of the first half remaining when they were undone by a superb goal from Jordan Fletcher.

But the second half started disastrously for them, conceding two goals in the opening three minutes.
Niall Morgan made it 2-0 after 47 minutes and a minute later Brett James added his side’s third. It was James who also completed the scoring after 66 minutes.

Some relief for the Sumas in their long losing league run came last Tuesday when they defeated Berks County 3-0 in the Reading Senior Cup thanks to goals from James Payne, Elliot Rushforth and Mark O’Connell. Their second round opponents will be either Reading YMCA or Hurst.

Sumas travel to Hartley Wintney in the first round of the FA Vase this Saturday.

It will be a huge test for Wokingham as Hartley Wintney boast a 100 per cent record in the Combined Counties League’s Premier Divisionafter nine games.

But in the past two months they have been knocked out of both the FA Cup and the Hampshire Senior Cup and the Sumas will be hoping to spring a surprise at Green Lane.
