BRADLEY Fraser and David Pitt both scored in stoppage time to secure an excellent 4-2 win for Ascot United over Oxford City Nomads at The Racecourse Ground on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

Fraser had gone close to netting early in the game, with his effort hitting the post.

The Yellamen went ahead in the 17th minute through Jamie West, but their lead did not last for long.

A smart, sweeping move led to Billy Gillett equalising after 24 minutes and the Nomads then took the lead through a Kaylem Patterson header six minutes later.

Liam Tallboys had a chance to extend his side’s lead, but was foiled by ‘keeper Chris Grace.

Ascot improved their passing game in the second half and started to create scoring opportunities.

The pressure paid off after 63 minutes when Joe Grant was brought down in the area and substitute Ian Brooks made no mistake from the spot.

The game took a dramatic turn in the 75th minute. The Nomads thought they should have been awarded a penalty rather than a free-kick just and their protests led to Daniel Leggatt receiving a second yellow card and manager Craig Adfy being sent from the dugout.

Oxford’s 10 men looked like holding out for a draw as the match reached 90 minutes.

However, in the second minute of stoppage time good work by Daryl McLean led to Fraser putting Ascot back in front.

And within two minutes it was 4-2 with David Pitt firing home from a chance set up by fellow substitute Joe Jarra.

Ascot United's excellent week continued on Tuesday night when they moved up to third place in the Hellenic League behind Flackwell and Thatcham (7-2 winners over Brackley Saints) following their 2-1 win over visitors Kidlington.

The Yellamen trailed at half-time but further goals from Pitt and Fraser saw them inflict the Oxon’s side second league defeat in 15 games.

Ascot are home to Tuffley Rovers at the Racecourse this Saturday (3pm ko).
