HURST’S inconsistent season continued as they slipped to a 3-1 home defeat against Newbury in the Thames Valley League Premier Division, writes Richard Ashton.

Andrew Nichol and Adam Dickens gave the hosts a two-goal cushion, but Mortimer hit back before Dickens was sent off late on.

Taplow United’s game at home to Highmoor Ibis Reserves was abandoned with the hosts 3-1 to the good. Henry Bailey bagged a brace and Jordan Jawandha was also on target for Taplow, but the referee called the game off with five minutes remaining due to disciplinary reasons.

Unity caused a big shock with an 8-0 success at AFC Aldermaston.

Woodcote Stoke Row moved into the second round of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup with a 6-2 win at Garsington.

Jake Dillon netted twice and Ben Rusher, Toby Nowell, Jim Hancock and Jonny Summers completed the scoring for WSR.

In Division One, table-topping Westwood United won 2-1 at Winnersh Rangers, while Maidenhead Magpies toppled Frilsham & Yattendon 4-2.

Goring United took the derby honours following a 3-1 home success against Woodcote Stoke Row Reserves in Division Two.

Jack Purser grabbed two goals and John Ramsey was also on the scoresheet for United, with James Elderton hitting the target for WSR.

Woodley United B thrashed Taplow United A 7-1 in Division Five. Matt Jenkins and John Mailer both scored twice, while Harry Turner, Jake Brown and Goran Olsson completed the rout.

Christopher Searle scored both goals as Berks County FC Rovers shared the points with Goring United Reserves in a 2-2 draw.
