ASCOT United were left feeling it was two points dropped following their 1-1 draw with Longlevens on Saturday.

A win in Gloucester would have sent the Yellamen top of the Hellenic Premier.

But Jeff Lamb’s men failed to secure all three points after a frustrating afternoon at Saw Mills End.

Ultimately, Ascot paid the price for a sluggish start during which Shaun O’Connor fired the home side into an early lead.

The visitors quickly responded and Jessie Wilson equalised almost immediately with a ninth-minute header and then went close again on 22 minutes.

Nevertheless, Ascot did draw level on 27 minutes when an initial shot was saved by the Longlevens keeper and Matt Jones tucked the rebound away.

The Yellamen were denied the chance to go in front when an effort was desperately cleared off the Longlevens line, though the hosts also felt aggrieved when they saw a goal of their own chalked off for offside on the hour mark.

As the clock ran down Ascot pressed for a winner only to see Wilson volley over the bar from a Lee Boon assist.

Boon also headed over the bar from a Luke Dexter cross then Daryl McLean’s shot was saved after a mazy run into the box.

To compound Ascot’s frustration, Wilson saw a header flash an inch wide of the Longlevens post in the final moments as the home side held on for a point.

Ascot United were due to travel to Reading Town’s Scours Lane on Tuesday night in the Hellenic Floodlit Cup (7.45pm).

They also face league trips to Brimscombe & Thrupp this Saturday (3pm) and Flackwell Heath next Tuesday night (7.45pm).
