WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook's disappointing Hellenic League Premier Division season hit a new low as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Abingdon United, writes Richard Ashton.

The rock bottom Sumas had chances to take the lead through both Sam Duffelen and Luke Scope, but were indebted to 'keeper Sean Woodward for ensuring the first half stayed goalless as the No. 1 saved a penalty after Sean Wanklyn brought an Abingdon player down just before the break.

Wokingham fell behind to their fellow strugglers midway through the second period when Jordan Rowland failed to deal with an aimless long ball, George Reid chasing the ball down and tucking it past Woodward.

The Sumas then felt they had a stonewall penalty shout turned down after Elliott Rushforth was hauled down in the area, while Jake Butler also had a shot blocked when he could have scored.

And the visitors were made to pay in the final minute, a George Parsons slip allowing Reid to bag his second and take the Oxfordshire side seven points clear of Wokingham.

The Sumas were due to visit Chinnor in the second round of the Floodlit Cup last night, before visiting high-flying Thatcham Town in the league on Saturday (3pm). They then host Berks County in the Reading Senior Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).

EVERSLEY & California went top of the Combined Counties League Division One table with a stunning 6-0 win at home to Farleigh Rovers.

Craig Smith put the Boars in front on nine minutes, and a second-half goal glut which featured a Matt Griffiths hat-trick and Tom Elmore and Matt Stamp strikes sealed the rout.

Eversley were due to visit Camberley Town in the Premier Challenge Cup last night, before hosting Worcester Park in the Division One Challenge Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).

SANDHURST Town advanced to the third round of the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup with a 4-1 whome win against Windsor Reserves on Saturday.

They had previously crashed out of the Division One Challenge Cup with a 2-1 defeat at Cobham on Tuesday of last week.

The Fizzers were due to visit Frimley Green last night, before travelling to Worcester Park on Saturday (7.45pm). They then host Hartley Wintney in the Aldershot Senior Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).
