BRACKNELL Town ended a disappointing week with a 2-1 Hellenic League Premier Division defeat at Brimscombe & Thrupp on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

The Robins, who had lost 3-0 to Alton in their FA Vase replay last Tuesday, soon came under pressure with keeper Garry Aulsberry making a fine save to keep out a deflected shot for Keith Pennicott-Bowen’s (pictured right) side.

But they fell behind in the 16th minute. Andre Kelly fouled Ollie Pitts and the same Brimscombe player made no mistake from the spot.

It took a brave block by Luke Hanley to deny Ben Deakin a goal, but after 32 minutes the Robins failed to deal with a move down Brimscombe’s right flank and Deakin crept in at the near post to fire past Aulsberry.

Bracknell made a bright start to the second half as they battled to get back in the game and put the home defence under pressure.

They were rewarded with a goal after 74 minutes. Michael Watson (pictured right), who had replaced Jake White at half-time, cut inside two opponents before producing a superb finish in the far corner to make it 2-1.

Robins had come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with the Gloucestershire side in an FA Cup tie early in the season, but there was to be no repeat of that game.

Bracknell’s seventh defeat in 10 league games, leaves them second from bottom of the Premier Division.

They are six points behind the four sides immediately above them, but with four or five games in hand following their early-season success in the FA Cup.

Robins, who were scheduled to play Highmoor Ibis in the Hellenic Floodlit Cup last night, are home to Lydney Town in the league this Saturday (3pm).
