Bracknell Town manager Keith Pennicott-Bowen was full of praise for his side after seeing them draw 1-1 with Kidlington at Larges Lane on Tuesday.

“It was only one point for us, but from where we are in the league (second from bottom) to where they are (third from top) it was a fantastic result,” he said.

“They are a top three side who are aspiring to win the league, but we matched them all the way, so it was a great performance.

“We had a game plan and the chaps executed it to a tee. It was about absorbing pressure and hitting them on the counter, but staying patient all the time.”

The Robins, who had secured their first Hellenic League win of the season when beating Brackley Town Saints 2-0 on Saturday, were under the cosh for most of the first half with Kidlington launching attack after attack, but their defence held firm.

Luke Hanley, on the scoresheet against Brackley, escaped with just a yellow card when he raised his hands in Lewis Coyle's face in retaliation to a challenge, before Robins lost centre-back Andre Kelly with a slight hamstring injury.

Robins, with Kennie Chamberlain having come off the bench, were just two minutes away from holding out to half-time when they conceded a goal to Kristian Thomas, who headed home Coyle's right-wing corner.

Bracknell stuck with their game plan in the second half, but they pushed forward a lot more than they had in the first half.

Virtually all of Robins' attacking options came via a long ball up to Shane Cooper-Clark, but he lacked support until Martin Bradshaw came off the bench.

But in the 73rd minute fellow sub Chamberlain also lent a hand and was rewarded with the equaliser. Cooper-Clark hammered a tremendous angled shot that keeper Sam Warrell could only parry and Chamberlain was on hand to turn the ball over the line.

Soon afterwards, Cooper-Clark set up a chance for Bradshaw, but his effort curled just wide of the post, but it still needed more outstanding work from the Bracknell defence to earn their side the point they fully deserved.
