Substitute Nathan Onreat-Wells grabbed a late goal to give Finchampstead a 3-2 home win over Chinnor in Hellenic League Division 1 East.

They fell behind after 12 minutes when Chinnor's John McMahon powered past keeper Adam Barnard before lashing the ball low into the net.

Finch responded well, however with Danny Wing prominent in attack. He went close before being set up by Harry Swabey to level the scores in the 23rd minute, with Wing's low shot across goal going in off the inside of the far post.

This goal gave the home side an lift and they looked the more menacing side in attack.

It came as no real surprise when Greg Alexander put them ahead after 36 minutes.

However, the Oxon side responded well to going behind and Tom White got them back on level terms just before half-time.

Both sides battled hard for the winner in the second half with Finchampstead looking the more likely to get it.

Adam Barnard and Alexander saw their efforts just off target, while Danny Blatchford fired over the crossbar.

But Finchampstead's pressure finally paid off when Onreat-Wells, who had come off the bench to replace the injured Swabey, struck with seven minutes of the game remaining. He burst through the Chinnor defence before hitting a well-placed shot that gave keeper Ben Taunton no chance.

The win lifts Finch up to fifth in the table, two points behind the pace-setting pair, Henley and Headington Amateurs.

Manager Jon Laugharne will be expecting his men to collect three more points when they visit second-from-bottom Old Woodstock Town this Saturday.

Sandhurst defeated Banstead Athletic 4-2 in the Combined Counties League after leading 3-1 at the break.

It was a good all round team performance at Bottom Meadow and they created enough chances to have won by a wider margin.

The Fizzers, up to seventh in the Division table, will be seeking three more points when they travel to bottom-of-the-table South Park Reserves this Saturday. The Reigate side have lost all four of their home matches so far.

Eversley & California, in fourth place in Division 1, will be looking for a return to winning form Saturday when they host Epsom Athletic following a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Addlestone-based Abbey Rangers.
