ASCOT United extended their winning streak in the Hellenic Premier to three matches with a 2-1 home victory against Lydney Town on Saturday.

The Yellamen were left reeling by a heavy 4-1 defeat to Royal Wootton Bassett at the end of last month.

But their response to that reverse will have surely put a smile on the face of manager, Jeff Lamb.

Ascot bounced back by winning their next three matches to climb the table and the goal they conceded on Saturday was their first during that winning run.

Lamb's men knew they were in for a battle against an improving Lydney who arrived at The Racecourse on a six-match unbeaten run themselves.

Ascot made one chance to the side that comfortably beat rivals Wokingham & Emmbrook last week with Dave Hancock replacing Steve Deverall.

In a boost for the home side, Lydney were missing England Cerebral Palsy international striker, Jack Rutter.

Ascot created the first chance of the afternoon when Jamie West's volley dipped just over the bar.

It took only nine minutes for Ascot to break the deadlock thanks to a David Pitt penalty.

He had too much pace for Lydney defender Josh Davis and was brought down in the box before dusting himself down to rifle home the spot-kick.

The hosts went close to a second goal when the unmarked Tristram Dennis headed over from Pitt's corner and it took 33 minutes for Lydney to muster a shot a goal, with Chris Grace comfortably saving a Declan Morley-Lyne effort.
