READING YMCA went top of the Thames Valley League Premier Division with a resounding 7-1 victory over struggling Hurst on Saturday.

On a high scoring day in the top division, Young Men powered past Hurst, who are still searching for their first point of the season.

Ryan Adams bagged a brace in Saturday’s emphatic victory while Jonathan Adey, Daniel Donegan, Matthew Drake and substitute Jamie Ball also found the net. YMCA also benefited from an own goal, as did Hurst.

YMCA are now one point clear of second-placed Mortimer who maintained their impressive 100 per cent start with a 2-1 home win against Highmoor Ibis Reserves.

Greg Beckett and Ryan Farmer got the goals for Mortimer who have won all four matches this season and lead third-placed Marlow United on goal difference.

But Marlow kept up the pressure on the top two after a thrilling 6-3 home victory against Woodley United Reserves to maintain their own 100 per cent start to the campaign.

Andrew Nichol put Marlow ahead but Woodley replied through Aaron Brown and Oneal Garnes to go 2-1 up.

A Woodley own goal gifted Marlow an equaliser and they went 3-2 in front through Adam Dickens with 71 minutes gone, only for Garnes to make it 3-3 with 12 minutes remaining.

However, there was late drama to follow as Marlow finished strongly and plundered three goals in the last nine minutes from substitutes Wesley Sutherland (2) and Qwamani Thomas.

There were 10 goals in the mid-table clash between hosts Cookham Dean and Berks County, with Dean emerging with a 7-3 triumph.

Jamie Burton scored twice for Dean followed by Jake Brooks, Jamie Handscomb, Jonathon Schaaf, Paul Sharpe and an own goal.

Joshua Scriven, Tony Langton and Mark Duffett were on target for Berks County.

The game between basement boys Unity and newcomers Newbury FC also produced a staggering 10 goals, with visitors Newbury sneaking it 6-4.

Craig Hill was the hero of the day after scoring five times for Newbury, with Jack Murray grabbing the other goal.

Prince Massaquoi and Foday Touray both netted twice for Unity, who are yet to pick up a point.

AFC Aldermaston put five goals past Rotherfierld United in a 5-1 win, which moved them up to fourth.

Nicky Black (2), Michael Porter, Liam Tackley and Matty Wilkins scored for Aldermaston after Stuart Brown had put Rotherfield ahead.

Woodcote Stoke Row fought back from 1-0 down to beat Taplow United 2-1 at home.

Jason O’Connor fired Taplow ahead but goals from Jake Dillon and substitute Toby Nowell secured the points for Woodcote.

In last Wednesday’s round of Premier Division matches, AFC Aldermaston thrashed Highmoor Ibis Reserves 7-1 with Kai Parton-Edey scoring a hat-trick.

Ryan Alexander, Liam Tackley, Matty Wilkins and Nicky Black were also on the scoresheet. Gene Da’Breo replied for Ibis.

Mortimer defeated Berks County 2-1 in a closely-fought encounter. Oliver Noyes had put Berks County in front, but a brace from substitute Michael Davies, one of them a penalty, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for Mortimer.

Reading YMCA clinched a 5-2 away victory at Newbury FC. Ryan Adams notched a brace for Young Men while Matthew Drake, Darrel Fairbrother and Jonathan Adey were also on the scoresheet.

Leroy Clarke and Jack Murray got the goals for Newbury.

Finally, Rotherfield United picked up their first win of the campaign after beating Unity 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.

It looked to be plain sailing for Rotherfield when Aaron Attfield, Tom Candish and Patrick Gardner all scored to put them 3-0 up.

But Unity replied through Prince Massaquoi and Abdul Ally in the second half to set up a nervy finish. However, Rotherfield held out until the final whistle to claim all three points.

Mortimer Reserves and Cookham Dean Reserves were the big winners in the opening round of Division One matches.

Mortimer won 2-1 at Frilsham & Yattendon on Saturday thanks to strikes from Dan Allen and Dan Evans. Goals from Phillip Fitzsimons and Ryan Henry helped Dean to a 2-1 win against AFC Corinthians.
