Brad Brown spent only 25 minutes on the pitch, but certainly left his mark during Binfield's 4-3 FA Vase defeat by Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Monday night, writes Dave Wright.

He came off the bench in the 57th minute of this first qualifying round replay with Moles trailing 2-1.

Within 90 seconds he was shown the yellow card for a wild flying challenge, but two minutes later he grabbed the equaliser with a well-placed shot past keeper Curtis Meare.

But on 83 minutes the bearded striker limped off with what looked to be a hamstring injury.

There was pain, too, for his Binfield team-mates as they lost a seven-goal thriller in the last minute.

Only one of the goals came in the opening half, and it was a bit special with Harvey Scholes unleashing a tremendous 30-yard shot over keeper Nathan Silver.

Silver did brilliantly to keep out a close-range effort from Callum Youngsam, but Binfield did more of the attacking in the first half, only to be let down by poor finishing.

Three minutes into the second half a misplaced pass in midfield was seized upon by winger Scholes and raced down the left and cut in before threading the ball low past Silver to make it 2-0.

However, three minutes later the Moles reduced their deficit with a brilliant 25-yard shot from Jemel Johnson and then Brown made it 2-2 just after the hour mark.

Scholes was involved in the move which led to Dan Bailey restoring the Wiltshire side's lead in the 81st minute, but Binfield returned to the attack, forced two corners and from the last Liam Ferdinand forced the ball home.

The tie looked to be heading for extra time, but with two minutes to go Binfield were punished for slack marking when Nathan Hawkins headed in a right-wing corner.

In Saturday's tie at Wootton Bassett's new £6.5m sports complex, Ferdinand put the Moles in front after three minutes when he headed home Josh Howell's in-swinging corner.

Ferdinand lost out to keeper Meare in a one-on-one situation and then new skipper James Knight saw his long-range effort strike the crossbar.

The home side equalised through Steve Robertson's unstoppable left-foot shot into the top corner in the 78th minute,

Town had Sam Packer sent off for two yellow-card offences, but Binfield were unable to take advantage in extra time.
