WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook’s search for a first Hellenic League Premier Division win of the season will continue after they were beaten 2-1 at home by Thame United on Saturday.

Dan Bateman’s side dominated large periods of the game but couldn’t break their opponents down, and were made to pay by the visitors.

The game was the last of four home fixtures that Bateman would have been hoping to make count at the start of a challenging campaign – but despite some promising performances his side have taken just one point from the games.

It was another story of what might have been on Saturday, with the Sumas dominating early on but falling behind to a scruffy own goal from a needless corner.

It remained that way until the second half, when the visitors made it 2-0 with a swift counter-attack.
There were a couple of ricochets in the Wokingham box before the ball fall to Ben Fray, who slotted home to make it 2-0 to Thame.

With the heat playing a huge part in the game, it was always going to be a contest where the side chasing the game was facing an uphill struggle.

But Wokingham kept pushing forward and Luke Scope rounded the keeper and slotted the ball away after latching onto a sublime Craig Haylett pass to reduce the deficit.

The hosts were left frustrated in the final stages after heavy pressure led to nothing, leaving the Sumas with one point from a possible 15.
