BINFIELD FC salvaged their FA Cup hopes with an 86th minute leveller courtesy of Brad Brown against Westfield.

Roger Herridge had talked before the season about wanting to make strides in the historic competition but it looked like it would be an early exit for the Moles as they struggled to break down a resolute visiting defence.

But Brown delivered four minutes of time to force a replay at Westfield's Woking Park Stadium – which was due to be played last night. (Tuesday.)

Both sides had started their league campaigns with a win and a draw so the result was hard to predict, and that's how it started as both teams were evenly matched in the opening stages.

Chances were exchanged at either end before Westfield took the lead in the 20th minute as Phil Moore fired home from close range after Binfield had failed to clear.

It could've been 2-0 just moments later but a chance was spurned after more poor defending from Herridge's side.

But Binfield fought their way back into the contest and saw three good chances go begging before half-time.

Jemel Johnson and Dave Woozley both headed over the crossbar before Khalid Senussi fired over the bar when well placed.

Brown replaced Aaron Rowland at the start of the second half but it was the visitors that enjoyed the better of the early stages.

Nathan Silver was again in fine form and thwarted Westfield on numerous occasions, giving Binfield a shot of finding their way back into the contest.

Woozley again went close midway through the half as the Moles poured forward looking for an equaliser, and they felt they should've had a penalty in the 80th minute but the appeals were waved away.

But Binfield kept going and got their reward when Brown broke clear of the defence and finished well to score his first goal of the season.

A draw was a fair result for both sides and they were due to play last night for a place in the next round of the FA Cup.

Binfield visit Longlevens AFC on Saturday (3pm).
