The Moles hot-shot scored three of his side’s five first-half goals and went on to notch another late in the game.

“I am absolutely delighted with my goals, but it was about time they came,” he said after Saturday’s super show at Hill Farm Lane.

“In recent weeks the wingers and midfielders have been scoring the goals and I haven’t been getting many chances, but they came today, so I am pleased.

“That takes me to 25 for the season, which is all-right, but it could be better.” Davies, who in the past has topped the 40 and 50 marks, added: “At Christmas I set myself a target of 30 goals for the season. That is a bit short of where I used to be, but as long as we win matches as well as a cup or two then I will finish the season happy.” Davies saw Josh Pearson and Callum Whitty put their side 2-0 up early on before he completed a first-half hat-trick.

He said: “We were awesome in the first half and we could have scored a few more. I think 6-0 flattered them (Reading) in the end.” Davies’s drive and determination caused Reading so many problems that they were forced to take young centre-back Chris Fabiancyzk out of the firing line after 25 minutes.

He had fouled Davies to give away a 14th-minute penalty which enabled Whitty to make it 2-0. The opening goal had come after three minutes when Pearson rifled home a superb left-footed shot that winged its way past keeper, Nathan Silver.

Binfield were in complete control and the goals continued to flow with Davies, relishing the amount of space he was being given by the visitors’ defence, finding the net in the 21st, 30th and 38th minutes.

The over-worked Silver also made a couple of excellent saves to keep the score down to five by the interval, which could not come quick enough for the visitors.

In fact right-back Sam Bangura could not even wait for the break, as with five minutes to go he walked off the field and was substituted.

Shocked Town manager Stuart Plumridge said the former Chelsea Academy player world be leaving the club.

At least the out-of-form visitors, who had lost 3-0 at home to Bracknell the previous week, did make it more of a game in the second half. They re-organised, showed bags more determination and played with more intensity. They applied pressure on skipper Dave Woozley and his defence, although rarely looked capable of getting the ball past keeper Dan Weait.

Binfield also took their foot off the accelerator and were content to cruise through the rest of the game. But Davies remained hungry for goals and 10 minutes from the end he finished off a right-wing move to bag his fourth.

That means Moles have netted a remarkable 26 goals in their last five home league and cup games. And there is a good chance of them adding to that tally this Saturday when struggling Thatcham Town visit Hill Farm Lane (3pm ko).

Next Wednesday Moles travel to bottom club Cheltenham Saracens, the first of five successive away fixtures.
