The Moles handed out a 6-0 hiding to Reading Town at Hill Farm Lane on Saturday, their fifth win in succession and eighth in all competitions.

“We have certainly got to aim for the top four and if we can add a piece of silverware as well, that would be nice,” Herridge told the News.

His side are currently firing on all cylinders at the moment, having scored 29 goals in their last six fixtures.

Five of them came in the opening 40 minutes against Reading Town and as Herridge said: “It could so easily have been seven or eight. The game was over by half-time. We played some nice stuff and scored some good goals.” But, with Reading offering much stiffer resistance in the second half, Moles were only able to add one more to their tally, and that came from Ian Davies, making it four in all for the striker. He bagged a first-half hat-trick after James Pearson and Callum Whitty had each netted an early goal.

Binfield’s boss added: “I said to them (his players) at half time lets not get complacent or sloppy, but it is always difficult when the game is won. We played in only third gear in the second half to be honest, “Town didn’t come here in the best of form and we were head and shoulders above them. The scoreline doesn’t lie.

“But fair play to them (Reading). They were far better in the second half and kept on going until the end.” The win left Binfield fifth in the table with 63 points from 32 matches, four points behind the side immediately above them, Ascot United. And their east Berkshire rivals have still to come to Hill Farm Lane.

Herridge is obviously pleased with the way things are going these days.

He said: “The team is evolving a little bit now. It is getting a little bit younger in certain areas but we have still got some good experienced players there in Wooz (Dave Woozley) and Callum (Whitty), along with Carl Withers and Ian Davies.

“We have a decent squad here now; it’s a nice mixture. We have got some good technical players; we pass the ball well and we’re scoring goals for fun at the moment, so, yes, I am pleased with the way things are going at the moment.” Herridge added: “If we are to finish in the top three or four we probably can only afford to lose one of our remaining games.

“We have certainly got to aim for a top four finish and improve on last year’s placing of fifth.” Binfield, having hammered eight past Milton and put another six into the Reading net, will be looking for more goals this Saturday when Thatcham are the visitors.

Herridge saw Thatcham lose 2-0 at Waterside Park to 10-man Flackwell Heath last week.

Mid-table Thatcham, who were then hammered 4-0 at home by relegation-threatened Brimscombe & Thrupp, have lost seven of their last nine games, but during that run they did manage to win 5-0 at Holyport and 2-0 at Thame.

Next Wednesday (March 26) Binfield travel to already-relegated Cheltenham Saracens, the first of five consecutive away league and cup games.

Binfield will also be away to Henley Town in the semi-finals of the Reading Senior Cup after the Hellenic Division One East side’s 1-0 win over Hurst on Saturday. The tie is arranged for The Triangle ground on Tuesday, April 21 (7.45pm).
