Substitute Joe Grant was the hero of an otherwise turgid affair after stepping off the bench to score an 89th minute winner against the Oxfordshire side.

It looked like being a frustrating night for Jeff Lamb’s Yellaman who struggled to break down a Milton United side languishing in the bottom six.

But three inspired substitutions by Lamb did the trick as all were involved in Grant’s matchwinning goal.

The victory saw Ascot stengthen their grip of fourth place in the table and they are now four points ahead of local rivals Binfield FC in fifth.

And if Yellamen win their three games in hand on leaders Highmoor Ibis they will be just two points off the top.

Ascot return to Oxfordshire this Saturday to face mid-table Oxford City Nomads (3pm ko).

Ascot’s Under 16s youth team put the gloss on an excellent week for the club by booking their place in the Berks & Bucks County Cup final where they will meet Penn & Tylers Green at Marlow FC this Sunday (3pm ko).

The youth team beat Reading-based Barton Rovers in the semi final thanks to goals from James Goodey, Aaron Maggs and a Charlie White penalty.

Binfield FC have also enjoyed a week to remember with success on two fronts.

Roger Herridge’s Moles defeated Holyport 4–2 at home in the Hellenic Premier last Friday night thanks to three goals in the last 10 minutes.

Jemel Johnson fired Binfield ahead, but a brace from Jamie Essex put Port 2–1 up.

However, Binfield finished strongly and a deflected effort from 18-year-old Josh Howell made it 2–2 before Seb Bowerman curled home a superb winner form the edge of the box to secure all three points.

Howell was at it again on Monday night after bagging a hat-trick as Binfield thrashed Rotherfield Park United 5–0 in the Reading Senior Cup quarter-final.

The Hellenic League high-flyers were clearly the more skilful and and better organised side, but it was certainly no pushover for them against their Thames Valley Premier League opponents.

But Howell’s treble and further goals from Jamie Connor and Dave Woozley sent Moles into the semi final where they will meet either Hurst or Henley Town.

Before that, Moles host Reading Town in the league this Saturday (3pm ko).

Meanwhile, Bracknell Town were not in action in midweek, but they did record an impressive 3–0 win at Reading Town in the Hellenic Premier on Saturday.

James king marked his return from injury by putting Robins ahead at Scours Lane.

Then an excellent brace from red-hot striker Shane Cooper-Clark sealed all three points for Keith Penicott-Bowen’s visitors.

Cooper-Clark’s two goals took his goal tally to 31 in all competitions this season, and Penicott-Bowen beamed: “To score that amount is fantastic.” Bracknell travel to Holyport in the league this Saturday (3pm).

Elsewhere, Wokingham & Emmbrook were stunned by Reading YMCA as they were beaten 4–2 in the final of the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup at Newport Pagnell FC on Saturday.

Dan Bateman’s Sumas fell 4–0 behind in the first half and had Will Day sent off before Chris Yeatman and James Charlton replied late on.

Wokingham hope to continue the defence of the Reading Senior Cup this Saturday when they host Newbury at Henley Town FC (3pm ko).
