Morning rain led to a delayed start delayed start and a 53 to 48 overs match, but after winning the toss and electing to bat, Finch captain Simon Bell (23) and Jones shared a 55 run opening stand.

In-form Harry Stephens joined Jones at the crease and the pair both recorded well-crafter half centuries, their 114 run stand ended when the former was dismissed for 55.

Another rain break reduced the game to a 46-41 split, and Jones fell just short of a well-deserved hundred when he was caught for 92 to leave the hosts 194-3.

That wicket did not deter Finch, who continued their momentum and a well struck 37 from Dan Marles allowed them to post 239-7.

However the total looked as though it would be insufficient as Chesham openers Jimmy Day and Matt Rance batted fluently to post 113 before Rance was out for 43.

Day was dismissed for 67 to leave Chesham 134-2 and then 174-3 after Jason Rance was removed by Stephens.

However the visitors still appeared to be in control until Andy Goddard was well caught in the deep by Max Stevenson for 28, and Chesham stood on 200-5.

Off spinner Stephens (3-77) again impressed with the ball, and steady bowling further reduced the run rate, with Tipene Friday claiming 2-74.

Chesham needed 16 off the last two overs but with Dan Marles taking a caught and bowled in his only over, Chesham fell five short at 234–7.
