The Camels overcame the disappointment of a scheduled fixture with Lashings on Friday being cancelled to put on a show against the Royal Military Academy.

With a marquee up, a popular cake stall and drinks flowing, spectators were treated to a thrilling game which the Academy eventually won by two wickets.

Sandhurst batted first and posted a competitive 168 all out, with young opener Dan Bird impressing with 37 and Anthony Clapham scoring 29.

However RMA were able to chase the runs down with five overs to go, despite the best efforts of Clapham (2-29).

The day provided a boost to the club’s coffers after it had to abandon the proposed Lashings game due to poor corporate table sales.

Mr Coxwell explained: “If we had proceeded without the security of the guaranteed income from corporate sales we would be exposing the club to a possibly serious financial risk.

“We did pursue various options to try to go ahead and had lengthy dialogue with Lashings but reluctantly felt that we made the best decision for our club.

“I would like to thank those who put in hundreds and hundreds of hours of their own unpaid time into the organisation of this event.” During a difficult time for the club, its clubhouse has been broken into three times in the past fortnight.
