Finch were asked to bat at the picturesque Oxfordshire ground and made steady early progress before Max Stevenson was dismissed by Patrick Foster to reduce the visitors to 45-1.

The same bowler then removed Harry Stephens for a duck and the impressive Matt Jones (44) to leave Finch in trouble at 74-3.

Dan Marles (28) and Will Rogers (34) set about steadying the ship before the former and captain Simon Bell were dismissed in quick sucession.

When Rogers became Foster’s fourth victim Finch stood at 158-6, but an excellent seventh wicket partnership of 61 between Andrew House (54*) and Jonothan Dewes (30) put their side back in the hunt.

However after Dewes was dismissed, Finch slumped from 219-6 to 235 all out as Will Eason ripped through the tail.

The visitors claimed two early wickets courtesy of Callum Gregory and Stephens to leave Horspath wobbling on 42-2, but an excellent stand between James Phillips and Foster seized the initiative for Horspath.

Stephens grabbed a second victim when he trapped Phillips leg before for 50, but all rounder Foster (87*) and Andrew Wynd (53*) led their side to victory with three overs remaining.

Finchampstead 2nds picked up a fine three wicket win against Harefield 2nds in Thames Valley League Division 2a.

Spinner Matt Harper took 6-34 as Harefield were bowled out for 145, and Finch were cruising to the win with Adam Dewes making a well-crafted 62.

However a middle order collapse resulted in Finch falling from 115-1 to 120-6, before the lower order sealed the win.

Finchampstead 3rds drew a thrilling game with North Maidenhead 2nds in Division 4b.

Young spinner James Woodford took 5-70 as Maids were bowled out for 200, and Finch fell agonisingly short in the run chase as they closed on 198-8, with Tom Wroot making 80.

Wargrave 2nds sealed a 21 run win against Finchampstead 4ths in Division 7a.

Josh Lincoln claimed 4-54 as Wargrave were dismissed for 201, and the all rounder then made 70 but ended on the losing side as Finch crashed to 186 all out.

Ben Cole (7-41) produced a brilliant bowling display but he could not quite guide Finch 5ths to a win against Newbury 3rds in Division 8a.

Finch rattled up 167 with Doug Scholes top scoring (37), but Newbury clung on for the draw and ended on 101-9.
