Wokingham's Ryan Pogson fends off a delivery against Reading. 122941.
WOKINGHAM CC's title hopes are all but over after a two-wicket defeat to leaders Reading left them 40 points off the summit of Thames Valley Division One.
Asked to bat first by the visitors, Wokingham lost Rukshan Soza for a duck and then saw skipper Dan Reddyhough (24), Stuart Parsons (19) and Simon Myles (28) all dismissed after making starts.
The loss of Reddyhough sparked a further collapse that saw the score reduced from 60-3 to 61-6.
And only Ryan Pogson (24) could make any notable contribution lower down the order as the hosts were dismissed for 119.
Wokingham's hopes of defending the meagre total were given a boost when Stevie Smidt (2-33) and Paul Dewick (2-38) removed both openers cheaply.
But although the Oaks continued to take wickets, Reading reached the total in the 50th over with Shelvin Gumbs (35) top scoring.
Elsewhere in Division One, Finchampstead remain in a relegation battle after losing by 36 runs to High Wycombe 2nds.
Saif Zaib top scored with 51 as High Wycombe were bowled out for 243, and Finch were then dismissed for 207.
Eversley kept up the pressure on Division 2a leaders Datchet by securing a five-wicket win over Slough 2nds.
After bowling Slough out for 177, Eversley reached the total in the 45th over to stay 22 points off top spot.
Meanwhile, Royal Ascot slipped to seventh in Division 3a following a three-wicket loss to Chalfont St Peter.
Hafiz Mohammed gave Bracknell's survival hopes a much-needed boost, scoring a superb 144 not out to lead his side to an 11-run victory over Kew 2nds in Division 4b.
Mohammed scored over half of the visitors' runs as they reached 281-2 from 50 overs, before then bowling Kew out for 270.
