WOKINGHAM strengthened their grip on third place in Thames Valley Division One with a narrow two-wicket victory over High Wycombe 2nds.

Neither side had tasted defeat prior to the encounter, and Wokingham were without skipper Dan Reddyhough and vice captain Chris Nicholas.

But after winning the toss and electing to bowl, the hosts bowled Wycombe out for 183, with Matt Lance (64) top scoring.

Simon Myles (76) then led Wokingham to victory despite the best efforts of Wycombe's Rob Collins (5-64).

Finchampstead's search for a first win of the season continues after they drew with Beaconsfield on Saturday.

Dan Lincoln top scored with 61 as Finch closed on 236-7, and Beaconsfield then reached 162-8 to earn a draw.

In Division 2a, league leaders Eversley came up a wicket short of victory against British Airways.

Scott Dyer (86*) and Phil Wise (84*) both struck unbeaten half centuries to help Eversley reach 209-1 from their 52 overs.

And Simon Mugava's five-wicket haul put Eversley on the brink of a third league win, only for the home side to hold on at 203-9.

Royal Ascot also drew against Purley-on-Thames in Division 3a in a game that saw two players from each side score half centuries.

Nick Sweetman (90) and Adam Espirito (76) top scored for Ascot as they reached 261-5 before Patrick Allen (92*) and Lemar Maycock (64) guided Purley to 205-6.

Bracknell suffered an eight-wicket loss to Reading 3rds in Division 4b after being bowled out for just 128 batting first.
