ASHES winners Monty Panesar and Matthew Hoggard will be in action when they take on Eversley CC for the PCA Masters on Friday, writes Richard Ashton.

Cult hero Panesar took 167 Test match wickets for England with his left-arm spin, while Hoggard claimed 248 and was part of the side which won back the Ashes in 2005 in what was described as one of the greatest series of all time.

Other stars on show at Cross Green include destructive batsmen Ali Brown and Owais Shah, ex-international all-rounders Mark Alleyne and Shaun Udal, and powerful wicketkeeper Phil Mustard.

A dangerous fast bowling attack for the Masters includes Devon Malcolm – most famous for his 9-57 against South Africa – Alex Tudor and ex-Gloucestershire man Jon Lewis, who was also part of the coaching team for England Under 19s’ recent World Cup bid.

Eversley cricket committee chairman Scott Sharp is looking forward to the occasion and said: “It promises to be a memorable day and a high point of the cricketing summer.

“For our guys to get the opportunity to play against some of the most famous names in English cricket history is very special and they cannot wait to have a crack.

“Hopefully the weather will be good and we can get a big crowd up here – the bar will be open and we will have a barbecue running all day, so if you are in the area then feel free to pop along.

“It is our biggest fundraiser of the summer so any support would be really welcomed to help the club continue to grow.”

The game starts at 2pm and there is free entry for anyone wanting to watch.
