ROYAL Ascot 2nds secured their first win of the Division 4a campaign as they knocked over visitors Theale & Tilehurst by six wickets, writes Richard Ashton.

Ascot bowled the away side out for 138, and they then cruised to their target in 36.4 overs.

Eversley’s brilliant start to the Division 2a season continued as the early-season pacesetters beat Kew by 62 runs.

Alex Sykes (64), Andrew Niblett (52) and Stuart Lipo (44no) were all among the runs as the Boars recovered from 69-4 to post an imposing 280-8 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Kew were bowled out for 218 as Lipo also impressed with the ball, the former Yateley man bagging figures of 4-44.

Eversley travel to Kidmore End – who are level on 67 points with the Boars at the head of the table – on Saturday.

In Division 2b, Hurst were on the wrong end of a 10-wicket caning at High Wycombe 2nds.

Alex Kayser’s 75 was a high point in Hurst’s disappointing total of 181, Sam Parry (4-30) the destroyer-in-chief for the home side.

Wycombe made batting look far easier as they chased down the total in 32.1 overs, Will Hatton (81no) and John Stevens (79no) helping themselves to runs.

Hurst are at home to Thatcham Town this coming Saturday.

Royal Ascot were beaten for the first time this summer as they went down by 45 runs at Beaconsfield.

Andy Murray (4-35), Nick Wiggett (3-44) and Kevin May (3-47) all bowled well as the hosts were dismissed for 204, Patrick Foster top scoring with 46 until he was trapped lbw by May.

Captain Jack Kendall made 48 opening the Ascot reply, but former Berkshire man Harry Stephens (3-27) and Foster (3-41) proved too good with the ball, dismissing the visitors for 159.

Royal Ascot do not have a game this Saturday following Yateley’s decision to pull their 1st XI out of the league, returning to action at Wargrave on Saturday, June 9.

In Division 5b, Eversley 2nds lost by 64 runs at Wargrave 2nds.

Kyle Bradley made 45 as the hosts amassed 211-9 in their 45 overs, and the Boars were bowled out for 147 in 38.1 overs in reply.

Mohammed Shabbir was in phenomenal form with the ball as Bracknell smashed Sonning 2nds by 193 runs.

Junaid Ashiq (43no) led the way for the home side as they totalled 240-8 in 45 overs, aided by a remarkably generous 51 extras from Sonning which included 18 wides and 14 no balls.

The Sonning innings never got going with only Steve Rayfield (19) making double figures as they were rolled for only 47.

Shabbir (5-17), Phil Stone (3-27) and Peter Henly (2-0) did the damage with the ball for Bracknell, who travel to winless basement boys Purley on Thames 2nds this coming Saturday.

Hurst 2nds obliterated Bradfield by nine wickets in Division 6b.

Ian Harvey (4-10 off nine overs) and Tim Everitt (2-22 off 10) were in fine form with the ball as Bradfield were knocked over for 149.

In reply, skipper Ollie Lovegrove continued his sensational start to the campaign with an unbeaten 107, and Hurst reached 150-1 in 32.4 overs.

Royal Ascot 3rds remain without a Division 7a victory after they went down by six wickets at White Waltham 2nds.

Dirk Benneyworth batted well to make 72 for Ascot, but Jeff Brooker’s 3-34 kept them in check as they could only post 204-6 in 45 overs.

Andrew Parham and Max Ring set the base for the Waltham chase with an opening stand of 69, and Muhammed Nasir then anchored the innings to end on an unbeaten 74 as the hosts raced to their target with 12 overs to spare.

Satpal Singh Madhan was the pick of the attack with 2-48 for Ascot. Bracknell 2nds completed a good day for the club as they smashed Datchet 4ths by six wickets in Division 8a.

Chris White (3-21), Chris Chandler (3-23) and Saj Farooq (2-21) ripped through the Datchet batting line-up as they were shot out for just 90 in 28 overs.

David Chandler and Brett Martingale gave Bracknell a solid start in reply, and despite a flurry of quick wickets, they eased to their target in just 18 overs.

Royal Ascot 4ths slipped to a disappointing 99-run reverse at home to Thatcham Town 3rds.

Joe Harwood (93) and Alec Davidson-Soler (70) put on 167 for the first wicket as Thatcham took control of the game after winning the toss, and Alastair Cooper’s 40 added to an impressive score of 273-4 in 40 overs. Naeem Mohammed (2-51) emerged with the most credit for Ascot.

The hosts suffered a nightmare start to their reply as they crashed to 9-2, but no-one was able to make the kind of match-winning contribution which was needed as Ascot were dismissed for 174, No. 9 Rob Phillips top scoring with 35.
