EVERSLEY’s dream start to the Thames Valley League Division 2a season continued with a 221-thrashing of Maidenhead & Bray at Cross Green on Saturday, writes Richard Ashton.

The table-topping Boars were asked to bat by the visitors after losing the toss, but after losing an early wicket, Tom Howorth (63) and James Magowan (70) steadied the ship.

South African Andrew Niblett (71) further boosted the momentum, and by the end of their 50 overs, the home side had racked up an impressive 349-5.

Maidenhead & Bray were never in the hunt in their reply, with Gus Cloete claiming an impressive 5-37 as the visitors were shot out for just 128.

In Division 5b, Eversley 2nds slipped to a five-wicket defeat at Falkland 3rds.

Byron Hickman (71) and Jack Ford (51) led the way for the Boars, but steady spells from Suthaharan Nadesapillai (3-42), Bavan Selva (2-36) and Nassar Khan (2-45) restricted Eversley to 231-9 in their 45 overs.

The Falkland reply started well as Chandan Singh (48) and Nadesapillai (30) built a solid base, with Tamer Sultan also adding 30 at No. 3.

Colin Webb (2-47) and left-arm spinner Sam Glaze (2-66) gave the Boars hope, but a sparking unbeaten 77 from Arun Thiruchelvam hustled Falkland home with more than nine overs to spare.

Kevin Manning took brilliant figures of 5-26 as Eversley 3rds beat Sulhamstead 2nds by six wickets in Division 7a.

Sully were bowled out for 147, and useful knocks from Matt Salter (44no), Dave Howorth (33) and Alex Sharp (25no) eased Eversley home.

Yateley 3rds gifted Eversley 4ths 20 points as they conceded their Division 9a game due to being unable to raise a side.

The Boars were able to arrange a friendly with Wokingham 5ths – who also collected 20 points as Windsor 3rds could not get a team out – and picked up an exciting 23-run victory.

Ben Martin top scored with 79 and Robin Brooks (33no) and Bill Burnett (33) were also among the runs as the Boars amassed 233-8 from their 40 overs.

Rob Saunders (2-39) then impressed with the ball as the Oaks were restricted to 210-7 in reply.
