BASEMENT boys Finchampstead 2nds defeated Falkland by 78 runs to register only their second Division One win of the season.

They looked in trouble at 79-6, but the lower order staged a spirited fightback with Darren Augustus making 41 and last-man Anthony Parson 29 not out, helping Finch to close on 194.

Augustus then claimed 4-46 as Falkland were shot out for 116 in less than 22 overs.

James Magowan (62) and Phil Wise (52no) batted well as Eversley (209-3) – who host Kew on Saturday (12.30pm) – made it four consecutive Division 2a wins with a seven-wicket success against Windsor (208).

Royal Ascot stunned Division 2b leaders Slough 2nds with a 42-run victory.

Andy Murray made 75 not out as Ascot totalled 163-8 in their 50 overs, before Ollie Dunnett (4-16) and Kevin May (4-21) helped bowl the visitors out for 121.

Royal Ascot visit Aldershot on Saturday (12.30pm).

Fourth-placed Hurst (198-3) beat Sonning (197) by seven wickets, largely thanks to an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 103 between Usman Ijaz (56no) and Tim Walder (48no).

In Division 3a, Finchampstead 3rds won a thrilling game by four runs at Falkland 2nds.

They made 229-8 in 52 overs with Richard Reed making 75 and Sam Taylor 54, before Falkland were bowled out for 225 with an over to go, Michael O’Donoghue (4-68) the pick of the bowlers.

Will Perkin (59) and Paul Ager (57) bat for relegated Eversley 2nds (222-9), but they lost by seven wickets to Teddington Town (224-3) in Division 4a.

Mike Wyatt’s 4-36 inspired Royal Ascot 2nds (107-4) to a six wicket triumph against Burnham 3rds (104).

Bracknell’s (230-7) late-season resurgence continued as they climbed to fourth with an 82-run win against Falkland 3rds (148).

Bracknell host Slough 4ths on Saturday (12.30pm).

Tim Howson took 6-29, but rock bottom Royal Ascot 3rds (65) lost a low-scoring Division 6b thriller to Cove 3rds (88).

In Division 6b, Finchampstead 4ths were dismissed for 132 (Jamie Brown 44) and lost at home to Hurst 2nds by seven wickets.

Eversley 3rds (131) lost to Fleet 2nds (202-8 declared off 40 overs) by 71 runs in Division 7a, while captain Chris White (119no) kept Bracknell 2nds’ (258-5) survival hopes alive with a 103-run win against Thatcham Town 3rds.

Finchampstead 5ths (94) were thumped by 10 wickets by Bagshot 3rds (95-0) in Division 8a, while Sonning 3rds (114-5) beat Royal Ascot 4ths (112) by five wickets.

Yateley 4ths conceded their Division 9a game against Eversley 4ths.
