SECOND-PLACED Binfield continued their fine start to the Chilterns League Division One season by smashing Pinkneys Green by 151 runs, writes Richard Ashton.

Sean Ennis (30) and Chris Morgan gave the visitors a solid base after they won the toss and chose to bat, but when that pair, Adam Marshall and Eddie Lee fell the game was in the balance.

However, Tom Andrews (75), Matt Humphrey (38) and captain Mike Staves (56no) made vital contributions in the middle order, and while there was something of a tail-end collapse, Binfield reached 281 before being bowled out with the first ball of the 51st over.

Andrews removed Nadeem Asif and Chris Heyes cheaply, and with Tim Vines trapping Asad Rafiq in front, Pinkneys Green were in all sorts of trouble at 20-3.

Wasim Ahmed (28) and Azhar Razaq (37) lifted the score to 53 before Joe Sculley had the former caught behind.

Waleed Khursheed made 37 before he fell to Staves, and with Andrews (4-46) knocking over Razaq and Umar Abassi, the game was as good as up.

And a shocking collapse from 129-6 to 130 all out set the seal on a fine Binfield win, Staves (2-12) and Morgan (2-13) doing the damage late on.

In Division Two, Binfield 2nds dominated their draw against Hurley.

Jason Lunnon (38) and Steve Jeffery (27) put on 49 for the first wicket, and with Mickey Reid (47) also contributing, they reached 104-1.

A mini collapse saw Binfield slip to 129-5, but Tom Nower (39) and Matt Nicholls (30) added 63 for the seventh wicket before the hosts eventually declared on 244-9 after 50 overs.

Ian Goddard took two early wickets to reduce Hurley to 6-2, but David Simoes (39) batted well to keep his side afloat.

Nicholls (2-20) completed a good all-round day for himself, and with Goddard ending with fine figures of 5-20 from 11 overs, the hosts turned the screw.

However, they were unable to force home a victory as Hurley ended on 160-8.
