ADAM Marshall scored a brilliant century to inspire Binfield to an emphatic 165-run victory in their opening Chilterns League Division One game of the season at home to White Waltham.

He led the way with a superb 106, and with captain Mike Staves (33) and ex-skipper Sean Ennis (26) also chipping in, the home side were able to post a competitive total of 245.

Staves then showcased his all-round skills by picking up 4-21, and with Matt Hayman (2-20) and Tom Andrews (2-38) both impressing, White Waltham were skittled for just 80, Andy Elliott top scoring with 21.

Binfield may face a tougher test when they host Taplow this coming Saturday (1pm).

In Division Two, Binfield 2nds were thumped by 192 runs at Ley Hill.

Home opener Ollie Runswick made 56 and shared in a second-wicket stand of 99 with Richard Clarke, only ended when Ian Goddard trapped Runswick lbw.

However, Clarke continued on his way and scored 86, and with Callum Wilson adding 56, Ley Hill were able to declare after 48 overs on a huge total of 334-9.

Joe Sculley (4-66) and Goddard (4-105) were the pick of the Binfield attack.

New captain Jason Lunnon looked in good touch for Binfield as he made 27, but with the exception of Michael Read (60), the Binfield batting line-up struggled and they were eventually bowled out for 142, Suranga Daluwatta the chief destroyer with 6-32.
