BINFIELD CC were knocked out of the National Village Cup at the first round stage as they went down to an 87-run defeat at Cookham Dean, writes Richard Ashton.

The visitors made an early breakthrough when Tim Vines trapped Cookham captain Ben Millar lbw, but Yasir Qureshi (45) and and Kurran Mangat (49) were able to put their side back on top.

Mike Staves (3-26) and James Collett (3-26) turned the game round for Binfield, but an excellent innings of 49 by Richard Lucas guided the Dean to a competitive 230-9 in their 40 overs.

The visitors’ response could not have started much worse as openers Chris Morgan and Sean Ennis fell cheaply, and with Simon Foster taking 3-33, Binfield rarely looked as though they could chase the score.

Alex Jackson top scored with 24, but with Simret Mangat (2-17), Qureshi (2-21) and Sohil Mangat (2-26) all claiming a brace of wickets, the away side were bowled out for 143 in just 29.3 overs.

Binfield – who were voted into the Thames Valley League for the 2018 season at a SGM of member clubs last Wednesday – begin their final Chilterns League Division One at home to White Waltham on Saturday (1pm).
