BINFIELD Cricket Club have appointed Mike Staves as their new first-team captain for next season.

Staves, above, takes over from Sean Ennis who is stepping down after three season in charge, but will remain a key member of the first-team squad.

The club also announced a change of 2nd team captain with Paul Edgington taking over the reins from Ian Goddard.

Goddard skippered the seconds for six years and Edgington hopes to use next season as a chance to blood more youngsters The changes were announced at the club’s recent AGM and Ennis is hoping for a successful campaign in the Morrant Chilterns Cricket League.

He said: “I have stood down as 1st X1 captain, and my good friend Michael Staves will be taking over the reins.

“I have enjoyed three great years skippering the side, but felt it was time some fresh new ideas were brought in. Hopefully a bit of change can revitalize things for everyone, including myself.

“Mike knows the game very well, so we’re confident he’ll do a great job.”

Binfield finished seventh in Division One last season, while the seconds came sixth in Division Two.

Ennis added: “Paul is going to look to push on and develop the standard of the 2nds, bringing it closer to the 1ts and hopefully bring some promising young talent through over the next couple of seasons.

“We are looking forward to the season, and hopefully a better one on the field.”
