BINFIELD CC had to settle for a seventh-placed finish in Chilterns League Division One after their final game at basement boys Coleshill was abandoned due to rain.

The visitors chose to bat first and made steady progress through openers Mikey Allan-Canty (45) and Chris Morgan (28), before Adam Marshall (76), Tim Vines (41) and Paul Edgington (37) kept the momentum going in a total of 249-6 in 45 overs.

However, any hopes Binfield may have had of ending the season with a win were cut short after just 2.2 overs of the hosts’ reply, Coleshill were on 12-0 when persistent rain caused the game to be called off.

It was the fourth game Binfield have had abandoned this season – more than any other team in the league – and included both matches against Coleshill along with one against fellow relegated side Denham.

They were also the only team all season to beat champions Penn & Tylers Green, hinting what may have been possible but for the unfortunate weather and losing a couple of tight games earlier in the campaign.

In Division Two, Binfield 2nds also had their game washed out at home to Holyport.

The visitors racked up a respectable 231-8 in their 52 overs, Tony Boad (5-76) the pick of the Binfield attack.

However, only three overs of the hosts’ run chase could take place before the weather intervened.

Binfield had reached 4-0 before the players left the field for the last time.

Binfield ended the season in sixth place, 29 points above the drop zone.
