ROYAL Ascot ended their Division 2b season in third place after having their game at Burnham 2nds abandoned due to rain, writes Richard Ashton.

Aftab Khan scored a superb 124 to guide the hosts to 267-8 declared in 49 overs, but persistent rain forced the game to be called off before Ascot had a chance to chase. Oliver Dunnett (3-40) was the pick of the visitors’ bowling attack.

Hurst finished in fourth place after Andrew Ruddock’s 6-25 inspired his side to an emphatic eight-wicket win at Chiswick & Whitton.

The hosts were shot out for just 72, and Hurst knocked the runs off in just 14.2 overs.

James Magowan (66) and Tom Wright (61) impressed for third-placed Eversley (202-5) in Division 2a, but the rain denied them the chance to finish the job against Chesham 2nds (75-7).

In Division 7a, Eversley 3rds (56-1) fell agonisingly short of promotion after their game against Theale & Tilehurst 3rds (139) was called off, while Bracknell 2nds (135) survived following their abandonment against Henley 4ths (47-2).

Division 8a champions Wokingham 4ths (206-1 off 28 overs) were on top of their game against Eversley 4ths (28-3) thanks to an unbeaten 100 from Harry Staples and David Pelczer’s 52.
