The Robins held Ibis over 90 minutes but a goal crazy extra-time period saw the Larges Lane outfit concede four times as they fell to a 5-2 defeat.

It was a solid performance from a young Robins side and Pennicott-Bowen says that the future is promising for his side.

“It’ll benefit us in the long-term,” he said. “We had three young players come off the bench and it says a lot about the structure of our team and what we’re trying to do.

“It’s always disappointing to lose but we gave it a real good go and we’ll get the rewards in the future.

“When you think where we’ll be with these players this time next year then it’s exciting.

“We’re trying to get young players from Bracknell playing for their town and that will set a great structure for the club for the future, from the first team and development team downwards.” Mark Bradshaw, Connor Thorndike and William Kyremeh all came off the bench to play a part for the Robins, with the Bracknell boss praising the performance and attitude of his players.

The Robins have exited every cup they’ve entered this season at the first hurdle and this was no different despite a battling performance.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring as Anthony White headed home Stephen Peacock’s cross after 16 minutes.

Jordan Brown should’ve helped double the lead seven minutes later when White was square for a tap in but he fired at Gary Aulsberry in the Bracknell goal instead of passing.

New Robins signing Charlie Evanson was making his debut and fired across goal from a tight angle as the home side looked for a way back into the game.

He went close again in the 55th minute as he headed over the bar from close range, before Bracknell were given the chance to draw level from the penalty spot 15 minutes later.

Andre Kelly was brought down by Rob Tebby in the visitors’ goal and Sam Whiting stepped up to send Tebby the wrong way.

Bracknell had grown into the contest and it was an end-to-end game following the equaliser.

White went close to restoring Ibis’ lead twice before the hosts came close to grabbing a winner in the 83rd minute.

Kennie Chamberlain’s drilled effort was just kept out by Tebby before he got back up to keep out Bradshaw’s rebound and ensure the game went to extra-time.

It was a slow start to the added 30 minutes as a solitary White effort was all the period had to show for itself in the first 12 minutes, before bursting into life with five goals in the remaining 18 minutes.

A quick-fire double from Ibis put them in total command as Tristan Campbell netted before Aulsberry’s clearance hit White for a third Ibis goal 60 seconds later.

Ibis manager Marcus Richardson came off the bench and set up Brown to make it 4-1 in the 110th minute as Ibis found their shooting boots.

It was harsh on Bracknell, who had competed well throughout and didn’t deserve to fall so far behind.

They kept pushing forward and got their reward shortly after when Jake White headed home for the Robins from a Whiting free-kick.

Pennicott-Bowen’s side pushed forward late on in a bid to force an unlikely penalty shoot-out but they were caught on the break as Brown compelted his hat-trick to seal a 5-2 win for Ibis.

Bracknell host Oxford City Nomads on Saturday (3pm) as they look to continue their impressive league form.

Pennicott-Bowen added: “It’ll be a very tough game.

“I’ve been against Oxford loads of times down the years and I don’t think i’ve been on the winning side often.

“We’re expecting a tough game against a good side and we’ll have to fill the void of Shane Cooper-Clark who is suspended but we’re confident.”
