ANOTHER outstanding week for Bracknell Town has been topped off with the signings of two more quality players, writes Dave Wright.

The Robins followed up their 3-1 win at second-placed Flackwell Heath on Saturday by defeating the fifth club, Wantage Town, 3-0 at Larges Lane on Tuesday.

Town move up to third place in the Hellenic League standings with 34 points from 15 matches, one point behind Flackwell with a game in hand, and five points fewer than pace-setters Highworth Town, who boast a 100 per cent record after 13 fixtures.

Now Bracknell have strengthened their squad even further by bringing in two experienced players from Evo-Stik League clubs.

Left back Ryan Parsons has joined from Marlow, along with Chalfont St Peter captain and midfielder Adam Kirby.

Parsons has played for several clubs, including Aylesbury United, Egham, Slough and Windsor, where he was captain.

“He’s a very experienced player with four or five promotions with other clubs, so the type of player we need. His experience will be vital,” said joint-manager Jeff Lamb.

He has also brought in winger Daryl McLean from his former club, Ascot United.

The Robins are still trying to get Terence Bohane back on a full-time basis.

The hot-shot is currently on a dual registration with Evo-Stik League club Swindon Supermarine, and followed up his goal for them on Saturday with one for Bracknell on Tuesday.

Bohane ended Wantage’s stubborn resistance on 70 minutes by heading in Seb Bowerman’s cross.

Wantage, who had won all their previous seven Hellenic League meetings with Bracknell including a 3-2 home success two week ago, were down to 10 men at the time with Ryan Markham being shown a straight red for his studs-up challenge on Bowerman.

Five minutes after taking the lead, Joe Grant made it 2-0 with a fierce shot across keeper Curtis Meare, and Grant helped set up the third for Adam Cornell on 81 minutes.

“It was a comfortable win in the end, but until the sending off it was a tough game for us,” commented Lamb. “It was nice to to get revenge after losing at their place.”

Bracknell launch their FA Vase campaign this Saturday (3pm) at Larges Lane and will be warm favourites to beat Spartan League Division One side Buckingham Athletic.

Ascot United have slipped to third bottom of the Premier Division after losing 2-1 at home to Brackley Town Saints on Saturday and 1-0 at Flackwell Heath on Tuesday.

James Harding scored Flackwell’s winner on 66 minutes from a goalmouth scramble following a corner.

The Yellamen are next in action at Brimscombe and Thrupp on October 28.
