BRACKNELL Town completed a quick Hellenic League double over Oxford City Nomads by following up their 5-0 home win on Saturday with a 5-1 triumph in the return fixture on Tuesday, writes Dave Wright.

So it is certainly a dream start for new managers Jeff Lamb and Paul McGrotty, following their appointments last week along with coach Derek Sweetman.

The Robins, whose five goals at Larges Lane all came in the first half, took a second-minute lead at Marsh Lane when George Short headed home Dave Hancock’s cross.

Adam Cornell, who had scored the first four goals on Saturday, doubled the lead just before half time with a neat finish following good work by Joe Grant.

Seven minutes into the second half skipper Carl Davies moved up field for a Jamie McClurg corner and his powerful header made it 3-0.

Midfielder McClurg was also involved in the fourth goal, feeding Kensley Maloney who picked out Grant and he fired low past the keeper.

Cornell completed the scoring for Bracknell following excellent work by Seb Bowerman.

The Nomads kept going and were only denied by a goal-line clearance by Carl Garstang, but they did manage to grab a late consolation goal through Sami Khawaja, who curled the ball into the net from the edge of the area.

Town, who had Justin Clayton making his first league appearance of the season at centre-back, nearly added a sixth with substitute Jon Bennett hitting the post.

The Robins move up to third place in the table, eight points behind Highworth who made it 12 wins out of 12 by beating Thatcham 2-1 on Tuesday.

This Saturday (3pm) they are away to Wantage, who are fifth in the table after whipping Woodley United 4-0 on Tuesday.

The Robins could include TJ Bohane, who has rejoined the club on a dual registration with Swindon Supermarine, providing he has recovered from his hand injury, while fellow forward Liam Ferdinand is still battling to shrug off an ankle problem.

Bracknell are home to Aylesbury in the first round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).
