ADAM Cornell and TJ Bohane took their joint goal tally to a highly impressive 90 for the season as Bracknell Town eased through to the final of the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Cup, writes Dave Wright.

The Robins’ sharp shooters bagged a brace apiece in the 5-1 win over Headington Amateurs at Larges Lane last Thursday.

Substitute Ian Davies added the other as Town booked their ticket to the final against Highworth at Abingdon United’s ground on Monday (3pm).

It took Cornell just 10 minutes to open his account on the night and he missed a great chance to quickly follow up with a second when losing out in a one-on-one with stand-in keeper Luke Cuff.

Premier Division runners-up Bracknell were certainly not having things all their own way, with the side who finished third in Division One East looking lively and spraying the ball around with confidence.

But with leading scorer Cuff forced to play as an emergency goalkeeper, they could not match their host’s sharpness in attack.

Seb Bowerman, with a strong drive down the left flank, was only inches away from scoring before Bohane found the net in the 43rd minute with a trademark free-kick from 35 yards.

It became 3-0 in stoppage time when Cornell got on the end of John Gray’s long ball into the area for his 44th goal of the season.

The first half was entertaining and the second half was much the same with Headington, who had conceded ground advantage, playing no small part.

Cornell was denied a hat-trick by a goal-line clearance and he then sent a shot over the bar before giving way to Davies.

And it was the substitute who made it 4-0 in the 69th minute.

With the game lost, Headington made a switch 15 minutes from time with Cuff handing over the goalkeeper’s jersey to Carl Bloomfield.

The club’s leading scorer with 23 goals, the second highest in Division One East, was a late replacement for Harry Jenkins, who had been forced to pull out due to emergency work commitments.

And Cuff quickly made his presence up front, scoring a thoroughly deserved consolation goal for his side.

He was then denied a second by home keeper Chris Grace just before Bohane completed the scoring shortly before the final whistle.

It was his 45th goal for Bracknell, having previously netted one for former club Royal Wootton Bassett.

It was the third time in five League Cup ties Robins had scored five goals.

Manager Mark Tallentire said: “I thought we were excellent in spells and deserved to win.

“But we were a bit wasteful in front of goal and had we been more clinical it could have been a bit more convincing.”
