BRACKNELL Town picked themselves up off the floor to win the Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy by beating Binfield 2-0 at Windsor FC this week, writes Dave Wright.

The Robins were left devastated after missing out on the Hellenic League title last Saturday, when they lost 2-1 at home to Highworth while Thame United crushed Henley 9-0 to clinch the championship.

“The players deserve a great deal of credit for the way they bounced back,” said manager Mark Tallentire after the final on Tuesday.

“This has made up for the disappointment of Saturday and we are well chuffed to win the cup. It is the first trophy the club have won for quite some time and it is well deserved.”

Despite missing several regulars due to injury and suspension, Bracknell enjoyed much the better of the game.

Binfield did have their moments, but they were few and far between and they rarely looked a threat in attack despite an industrious performance from leading scorer Liam Ferdinand.

Liam Vaughan played well in goal and the young keeper managed to keep a clean sheet until just before the hour mark when TJ Bohane raced through the middle to slot home his 45th goal of the season.

Binfield’s hopes of getting back in the game virtually ended when Sean Moore was sent off after 78 minutes following two yellow cards in the space of five minutes.

Bracknell put the issue beyond doubt just before the end when a push on Bohane saw them awarded a penalty which Carl Withers smashed past Vaughan.

There was still time for Michael Walton to be dismissed for a foul on Bohane.

It was the fifth time Bracknell have beaten Binfield this season, and the local rivals could meet for a sixth time as both are through to the semi-finals of the Reading Senior Cup.

The Moles play Thames Valley Premier League side Woodcote Stoke Row at Hill Farm Lane next Wednesday (7.45pm ko), while Bracknell take on Wokingham & Emmbrook at Lowther Road on Saturday, April 29.
