IF you want to see goals, then Larges Lane is the place to be these days, writes Dave Wright.

Bracknell Town trounced Royal Wootton Bassett 6-0 on Saturday, a week after putting seven past Brimscombe & Thrupp.

Between those two Hellenic League games, the title-chasing Robins had demolished Mortimer 10-0 in the Reading Senior Cup.

“It’s pleasing to see us converting our chances,” said manager Mark Tallentire.

“Our haul of goals over the last few games is impressive.

“When we are going forward, everyone is an attacker and we’re certainly showing good forward momentum these days.

“Our full backs like to put to put crosses in and get on the end of things. But all our players are capable of turning games with their individual performances.

“We also have very good players up front who can convert chances, and all in all that makes us a very dangerous team.”

Town enjoyed a particularly impressive first half and a 3-0 interval lead hardly reflected their domination.

In front of a crowd of nearly 200, they took less than four minutes to open the scoring.

Keeper Chris Grace set up an attack with a long clearance down the middle and it was finished off by Adam Cornell with a 25-yard lob over the advancing Curtis Meare.

It was also their 100th league goal of the season in 30 games.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0. Jamie McClurg fed Seb Bowerman and the winger’s left-wing cross was slid home by right-back Dave Hancock, arriving late at the far post. Soon afterwards, midfielder George Short nearly caught Bassett out when he launched a huge lob from the half-way line, only to see the ball drop a foot over the crossbar.

Town were launching attack after attack with TJ Bohane, Bowerman and Kensley Maloney all threatening the visitors’ goal.

Bowerman was a particular menace and it was he who set up Cornell to score his second and Bracknell’s third goal just before half-time.

His brace took Cornell’s tally for the season to 36 goals.

With Bassett tightening up in defence, Robins were made to work harder in the second half, but they still managed to double their goal tally.

Bowerman and Cornell were involved in the move that led to Bohane making it 4-0 on 55 minutes – his 40th Bracknell goal of the season.

Jamie McClurg added the fifth just after the hour mark and was then taken off as he was nursing a sore toe.

Bowerman saw another of his efforts tipped over the bar by Meare, while Bohane twice got the ball into the net, only to be ruled offside on both occasions.

Cornell, having gone close to his hat-trick, provided the pass for Bowerman to complete the scoring in the 89th minute and give Bracknell a 6-0 double over Bassett this season.

After hosting Longlevens this Saturday (3pm), Robins are home again next Tuesday evening when they entertain Binfield in the quarter-finals of the Bluefin Sport Hellenic Cup (7.45pm).

The two rivals could also meet in the final of the Reading Senior Cup with both sides through to the last four. They are also in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy final at Windsor on April 11.

Bracknell are to host the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup final between Hungerford and Maidenhead United on Tuesday, April 25.
