SEB Bowerman scored four goals as Bracknell Town hotted up their Hellenic League title charge with a 7-2 demolition job on Brimscombe & Thrupp at Larges Lane on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

“Obviously I was really pleased with that, but more importantly, it’s another one off the list of games we have to win,” said the winger.

“It was a really good team performance.

“I think in the last few weeks (we have) not been quite at it, but it was much better today.

“I haven’t scored for a couple of weeks, so it was nice to get a few.”

It was the second time this season he has netted four times in the same game, the previous occasion coming in a 4-3 cup win at Shrivenham last November after he had come off the substitute’s bench.

Bowerman has now netted 21 goals in all competitions this campaign, moving him up to third place in the club’s Golden Boot list.

But he is unlikely to catch the top two, TJ Bohane, now clear on 36, and Adam Cornell with 33.

Bohane scored twice on Saturday with Ian Davies adding the other in only his second appearance.

It took only nine minutes for Bowerman to open his account and six minutes later he scored again, firing home from the penalty spot after Kensley Maloney had been brought down by Ben Prictor. Bohane made it 3-0 on 25 minutes, much to the delight of another good-sized crowd of more than 200.

Brimscombe, who came to Larges Lane lying fifth in the table, worked hard to get back into the game and Jack Smith raised their hopes with a 29th-minute goal.

But the visitors’ defence were struggling to cope with the lively home attack and Bowerman was brought down by Dan Hill, enabling the winger to complete his hat-trick from the spot in the 37th minute.

Smith missed a good chance to score again for the visitors, while Maloney went close at the other end. There was no let-up in the goalmouth action after half-time, although it was mainly at the Brimscombe end.

Cornell was not far away before more neat work by Maloney led to Bowerman forcing home the fifth goal in the 56th minute.

Sam Blackie netted a superb second for the Gloucestershire side on the hour mark and the visitors threatened to score again before substitute Davies netted Bracknell’s sixth on 78 minutes, taking three attempts to force the ball over line. Davies then set up the final goal for Bohane shortly before the final whistle.

Town remain one point ahead of title rivals Thame United, who edged home 1-0 against Royal Wootton Bassett, the side who visit Larges Lane this Saturday.
