MANAGER Mark Tallentire believes Thame United are the only side capable of stopping Bracknell Town from being crowned Hellenic League Premier Division champions, writes Dave Wright.

“It’s a two-horse race,” he said after seeing Town come through a tough test with a 2-1 win at Highworth Town on Saturday.

The Robins returned to the top of the table with 66 points, one ahead of Thame, both having seven games remaining.

Flackwell Heath are third on 64 points, but have just four matches left to play.

What is heavily in Bracknell’s favour is they have five fixtures at Larges Lane, where they remain unbeaten on their 3G pitch.

And Tallentire added: “We know what exactly what we have got to do.

“We have just got to take care of ourselves like we have been doing all season.

“The win put us back on top of the table and it’s (the title race) just between Thame and ourselves, I can’t see Flackwell getting back in it.

“We’ve got a tougher run-in than Thame, but we are not going to play many teams with as much quality as Highworth have got in certain areas.

“We do still have to play them at home at the end of the season, but I don’t mind who we play at our place as we know what we are doing.”

Away to fifth-placed Highworth was always going to be one of Bracknell’s hardest games at this late stage of the campaign.

As Tallentire added: “It is one of the most difficult places to go to and win games, so it was a great three points for us.

“Throw in the conditions as well – it was really windy – and it made it even tougher.

“We had to be at the top of our game and, fortunately, we were.”

Leading scorers TJ Bohane and Adam Cornell were on target either side of Aysa Corrick’s brilliant strike for Highworth, with all goals coming in the first half.

The Robins boss added: “Both of our goals were set up by a bit of magic from Kensley Maloney.

“We managed the game really well and deserved to win, but it was close.”

Town still have to play Highworth at home, although not until the end of the league season.

Tallentire continued: “We’ve looked at all the remaining fixtures, we know what we have to do. But we are keeping our feet on the ground and not getting too far ahead of ourselves.

“At the moment we are just concentrating on our next game, which is Ardley at our place on Saturday (3pm).”
