TERENCE Bohane scored two outstanding goals as Bracknell Town hammered his former club, Royal Wootton Bassett, 6-0 on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

TJ, having previously been with Highworth, had played in their first three games this season, being voted man of the match in two of them and scoring on his final appearance.

He then joined Bracknell to link up with their leading scorer, Adam Cornell, and since then the Robins have not looked back.

This win at the impressive Gerard Buxton Ground extended their unbeaten run to 12 league and cup games and they showed, particularly in the second half when they scored five goals, that they must now be considered one of the powerhouses in the Hellenic League.

Having played fewer games than all the sides above them, Town remain in mid-table, but for much of the game they looked a class above a Bassett side who would have gone third had they taken all three points.

The hosts were fortunate to concede just the six goals as Robins missed several other good opportunities.

Bassett did have a couple of chances themselves, but keeper Chris Grace did not have to work too hard to keep his first clean sheet of the season.

Grace was back in the side having missed the 2-0 win at Burnham last Tuesday through sickness, allowing stand-in keeper Callum Whitty to revert to his normal role at centre-back alongside Carl Davies.

There was not a weakness in the team with every man playing their part, but midfielder Jamie McClurg, who never stopped working, and Seb Bowerman, with his dangerous runs and acceleration, often caught the eye.

Manager Mark Tallentire saidcommented: “Jamie gave a fantastic performance; he just energised the whole team.

“But the whole side worked their socks off.”

Bohane was on the receiving end of a few strong tackles from his former team-mates, but he made them pay for it.

In the final minute of the opening half, Bracknell won a free-kick 25 yards out and Bohane curled the ball past the wall into the top left-hand corner.

Shortly before the goal, Davies had done well to prevent Steve Robertson from having a shot at goal when he raced clear down the middle.

With Bassett playing a defensive game, Robins had created very few scoring chances up to that pointso far, but that all changed in the second half.

In the 53rd minute smart work by Cornell and Joe Grant led to McClurg sweeping the ball home to make it 2-0.

On 75 minutes Bohane headed the ball into the path of Cornell to extend the lead and three minutes later TJ superbly volleyed home his second and Bracknell’s fourth from a James Suarez pass.

Substitute Suarez, making a welcome return to the side, also provided the cross for George Short to head home in the 84th minute.

A minute from time McClurg was brought down and Davies made no mistake from the penalty spot to complete the scoring.

Bracknell, who host Brackley Town Saints tomorrow, are in FA Vase first-round action on Saturday, away to Southern Counties East League Premier Division side Croydon (3pm).
