BRACKNELL Town FC extended their unbeaten run to double figures when winning 2-1 at Longlevens on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

“It’s now eight wins and two draws for us, so we’re delighted with that as it keeps the momentum going,” said manager Mark Tallentire.

“We went there to do job and we did that, but it wasn’t one of our vintage performances.

“We won pretty comfortably in the end, although I admit we did make a little bit of hard work of it.”

Skipper Carl Davies gave his side the lead just after the half-hour mark when he rose at the far post to head home a Carl Withers corner.

The Gloucestershire side equalised six minutes before half-time in controversial circumstances.

A home player went up on the back of Robins defender John Gray in a bid to reach a cross, failed to do so and the ball went for what looked a free-kick.

But to Bracknell’s shock, the referee adjudged that Gray had fouled the player and awarded a penalty, which Shaun O’Connor despatched past keeper Chris Grace.

The Robins, however, always looked in control of the game and deservedly sewed up another three points when Adam Cornell moved in at the near post to connect with Seb Bowerman’s cross on 55 minutes.

It took Cornell’s tally for the season to 16 goals in all competitions.

He had also scored in the 2-1 win over Thatcham in the first round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy last Tuesday.

The Robins, who were beating the Kingfishers for the third time in two months, will be home to Holmer Green in the quarter-finals.

The tie is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, by which time Bracknell could be back playing at Larges Lane.

Their new 3G surface is due for completion early next month, along with the pitch surrounds, floodlights and changing rooms.

Bracknell, who lie 10th in the table having played fewer games than all the sides above them, visit fifth-placed Royal Wootton Bassett (3pm) and next Tuesday host third-bottom Brackley Town Saints at Sandhurst’s Bottom Meadow (7.45pm).
