THE eagerly-awaited FA Vase clash between Binfield and Bracknell could prove a “bit spicy”, writes Dave Wright.

That’s the view of Robins boss Mark Tallentire ahead of the second-qualifying round tie at Hill Farm Lane on Friday (7.45pm kick-off).

“They are riding high at the top of the table,” he said.

“But when you are top that often puts extra pressure on teams, as you are there to be shot at, and we will certainly be having a real crack at them on Friday.

“It is going to be tough game for us, but then it’s also going to be tough for Binfield as well.

“I have watched their last two games and have been very impressed with their work rate. It is pretty obvious what we have got to do.

“We will go there and give them all the respect they are due for being top of the league. We have just got to apply ourselves properly.”

Bracknell lie sixth in the Hellenic League table, seven points adrift of Binfield, having played a game less.

They were scheduled to have met in the league last night (Tuesday) but the fixture was re-arranged to avoid them meeting twice in four days.

While the Moles had the weekend off, Bracknell came from behind to win 3-2 at Lydney as they returned to winning ways after being held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Henley at Sandhurst last Tuesday.

Tallentire’s men were first out of the hat when the draw was made, but the tie was switched to Hill Farm Lane, where they can expect a larger crowd.

But Binfield manager Roger Herridge doesn’t believe Bracknell will be inconvenienced by the switch.

“They are conceding ground advantage, but half their team know this pitch really well, so I don’t think the change of venue will make any difference to them.”

In fact, he reckons Bracknell must be regarded as the slight favourites going into the tie.

“You have only to look at the experience of their side compared to ours,” Herridge explained.

“Bracknell are resurgent; they have made some good signings. We know they have got a lot of quality.

“But I am sure they are realistic enough to know they aren’t going to get it all their own way.

“It should be a very good game.

“It is great we are meeting them in the Vase, but it would have been nicer if it was happening later in the competition.”

This weekend’s tie – which is expected to attract a crowd of more than 200 – is the last before the first round proper which will be played on the weekend of October 22-23.
