BRACKNELL Town FC have made two top quality signings that could well make them strong challengers for honours, writes Dave Wright.

Manager Mark Tallentire signed former Ascot United defender Alex Rodrigues from Thatcham and then returned down the M4 to acquire the services of goal ace Terence ‘TJ’ Bohane from Royal Wootton Bassett.

“These two players will make a huge difference to us, and that was shown in our two weekend games,” said Tallentire.

Bohane scored twice and set up another goal in the 4-1 win at Thatcham on Saturday.

Then on Monday he netted again and had an assist as Robins defeated Ascot 3-1 at The Racecourse Ground.

“When we signed TJ we knew we were getting a fantastic player,” added Tallentire.

“Three goals in two games – his record speaks for itself. He is a very hard working player and really earns his goals; he has a great presence up front.

“He is still settling in and getting to know the other players, so there is still more to come from him.”

Fellow forward and leading scorer Adam Cornell is also benefiting from having Bohane up front alongside him and the pair look set to become one of the most formidable strike partnerships in the Hellenic League.

Tallentire has also shored up his defence by signing Rodrigues, who joined Thatcham from Ascot in the close season, only to find himself without a regular first-team slot.

He made his debut at Thatcham and that game, followed by the one at Ascot, showed why he is so highly rated.

“Rodrigues glued us together at the back and we have looked a lot more solid with him there. He and Carl [Davies] look excellent in defence,” said Tallentire.

The Bracknell boss is not planning to make any further signings, adding: “We now have a competitive group of players. We still have players who are away for various reasons to come back in, so there is going to be plenty of competition for places.”

Tallentire was understandably pleased with the Bank Holiday wins over two of their Berkshire rivals.

“We were targeting all six points as we knew they would assert us at the right end of the table,” he continued.

Bracknell are now up to fifth.
