BRACKNELL Town completed their Hellenic League programme with two comfortable home wins, leaving them with a final placing of 14th in the Premier Division, writes Dave Wright.

“Considering where we were when I came here, I am pleased with that and it gives us something to build on for next season,” said manager Mark Tallentire.

The Robins defeated Royal Wootton Bassett 3-0 last Thursday and relegated Milton United 5-1 on Saturday.

“We’ve finished off the league well and can now concentrate on the Reading Senior Cup,” he added.

Tallentire rebuilt his side by bringing in a host of experienced players, but it was two of the club’s talented youngsters who stole the show against Royal Wootton Bassett.

Ben Poynter was on target once again, while Sean Hanley came off the bench to score a late third goal.

“Ben has got this wonderful knack of scoring and that is priceless for midfield players,” said Tallentire.

“He has certainly started his career off well and, if he is going to do that [score goals] on a regular basis, he will do very well.

“As for Sean, he came in and produced a lovely turn and finish to score his goal.”

Tallentire added: “Kensley [Maloney] was outstanding tonight, Callum Whitty played really well, but then so did the whole team.

“A massive plus was keeping a clean sheet. We concede too many goals and it is important we learn how to keep clean sheets. So keeping one tonight pleased me.”

Assistant manager Steve Nebbett captained Town against Milton in his last Hellenic League game before hanging up his boots.

After the game he was presented with a signed club shirt by Mark Tallentire.

Nebbett led the Robins to one of their biggest wins of the season, although they had to come from behind after relegated Milton had taken a shock first-half lead.

Callum Whitty equalised before half-time and there was no stopping Town in the second half with further goals coming from Carl Davies (penalty), Adam Cornell, Maloney and substitute Khalid Senussi.

Robins suffered a shock defeat in the semi-finals of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup on Tuesday evening when losing 2-1 in extra time to Division One East strugglers Didcot Reserves.

Aaron Gray put the hosts ahead, but Seb Bowerman equalised early in the second half.

Town, however, were eventually beaten by a goal from substitute Charlie Noble in the first period of extra time, although there was a suspicion of offside.

Robins’ George Short was shown a red card just before the end following an incident with Jack Hollister.
