BRACKNELL Town matched the Hellenic League Premier Division's top side Kidlington in every department on Saturday apart from the most important one of all – scoring goals, writes Dave Wright.

The Robins lost 3-0 to the title favourites at Yarnton Road, but must still be wondering how they failed to put the ball into the net.

Kidlington had not conceded a goal in their previous five games, but that run should have ended after just 45 seconds.

Kensley Maloney's delicate chip over the defence found Adam Cornell clear in front of goal, but the striker somehow managed to shoot wide from 12 yards.

Robins continued to ask serious questions of the league's meanest defence with their main threat coming from Seb Bowerman.

The winger was just about to pull the trigger when he had the ball whipped off his toes by Lewis Brownhill.

Bowerman got even closer when, after being played in by a good pass from George Lock, he cut in from the left before striking the near post.

Kidlington celebrated that let-off by racing downfield and taking the lead with their first real opening of the game.

Robins missed a chance to clear and Ryan Brooks took advantage to score in the 43rd minute and give the home side a half-time lead they did not deserve.

Bracknell looked less threatening in front of goal in the second half, despite a steady stream of balls into the home side's area.

Their hopes of getting back into the game ended just after the hour mark when Brooks raced into the penalty area wide on the left.

Keeper Garry Aulsberry unsuccessfully tried to stop his run and was out of position as the Kidlington striker checked back before hammering the ball into the net.

Aulsberry pushed another Brooks effort over the bar, but could not prevent the in-form striker completing his hat-trick just before the end.

Kidlington manager Martin Wilkinson said it was another superb victory against a "well organised and strong Bracknell side."

The Robins will be looking for three more league points when Longlevens visit Larges Lane (3pm).

Bracknell then host second-placed Thatcham Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).
