SEB Bowerman bagged a brace as Bracknell defeated Brimscombe & Thrupp 4-2 in an entertaining game at a wet and windy Larges Lane on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

“We have changed his role slightly and he is looking more of a threat in the final third,” said manager Mark Tallentire.

“He played really well and was unlucky not to have got a hat-trick.

“But the big thing for me was the way the whole team went about winning the points with desire and application. We worked really hard.”

In fact, the Robins could well have won by a larger margin.

They produced some excellent team work to create numerous chances and it needed a string of fine saves by keeper Steve Sparrow to keep the total down to just four.

James Suarez had already rattled Sparrow’s crossbar before the Robins took a 38th-minute lead.

Callum Whitty, who had replaced the injured Lee Rushe only two minutes earlier, headed Jamie McClurg’s free-kick onto the bar and Adam Cornell forced the ball over the line.

Cornell turned provider three minutes later, flicking on keeper Garry Aulsberry’s long punt down field for Bowerman to race through and round Sparrow before slotting the ball into the net.

But in stoppage time Aulsberry had to pick the ball out of the net when Chris Turner deflected home Billy Jones’s cross from the right.

Tallentire reflected later: “Conceding a goal just before half-time quite often turns a game and we spoke about this at half-time, but the boys reacted well and before long we made the game comfortable.”

Bowerman scored his second and Robins’ third on 51 minutes and seven minutes later George Short headed home McClurg’s free-kick.

Ash Caldwell pulled one back for Brimscombe after 65 minutes but he was sent off in the 78th minute when shown the yellow card for a second time.

Bowerman, Cornell and substitute Khalid Senussi all went close to increasing Town’s lead.

Bracknell Town’s game at home to Royal Wootton Bassett was postponed on Monday.

The Robins play Wokingham & Emmbrook at Larges Lane on Thursday (7.45pm) before travelling to title favourites Kidlington on Saturday (3pm).

Bracknell complete a busy week with a trip to Highworth Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).
