BRACKNELL Town’s star striker Shane Cooper-Clark has quit the club to join Hellenic League Premier Division title-chasers Thatcham Town.

The club’s leading goalscorer was the subject of a seven day approach from the Kingfishers – whose striker Marcus Mealing has rejoined Marlow – and has decided the time is right for him to seek pastures new.

Cooper-Clark had previously turned down a host of approaches from Hellenic and Southern League clubs, including Binfield, Wokingham & Emmbrook, Highmoor Ibis and Marlow.

The hitman had scored 17 times in 20 appearances for the Robins this season, and netted a remarkable 36 times last season to finish as runner-up in the Golden Boot.

He was also voted Hellenic League Premier Division Player of the Year.

Cooper-Clark made more than 100 appearances for the club, scoring more than 80 goals.

He leaves the Larges Lane side sitting second bottom of the table, and his departure will be a major blow to new boss Mark Tallentire.

Cooper-Clark said: “I’m sorry to be leaving Bracknell but I feel I have got to the stage of my career where I need a fresh challenge.

“When Thatcham showed an interest in me, I thought it would be the right time to move on. Bracknell will always have a place in my heart.”

In a statement, Bracknell Town said: “The club are sorry to see Shane go but would like to thank him for his level of commitment and effort for the club over the past three and a half seasons and wish him all the best for the future.”
