Both sides went into the game unable to change where they will finish in the Hellenic League Premier Division table, but it didn’t alter their commitment in a red-hot clash.

Shane Cooper-Clark was the man Ascot had to watch following his fantastic goalscoring record this season, and they’d have been well aware of what he can do after he netted a second half hat-trick in the reverse fixture in August.

It took him just eight minutes to open the scoring this time as he climbed highest to head home a corner and give the Robins the lead.

That effort means the hot-shot striker ends the season with a fantastic 34 goals from 36 games in the league – unfortunately agonisingly short of winning the golden boot despite leading the charts for most of the season.

Ascot had rarely threatened in the opening stages but they were given a helping hand – literally – in getting back into the game as the referee awarded a penalty for handball as Leon Yarnie’s flick was blocked.

Rob Saunders dispatched the penalty and with 20 minutes on the clock it was all square between the sides.

It was a tight, scrappy affair for the rest of the half and Ross Seldon’s audacious effort was the closest either side came, but it was tipped away by Robins’ Garry Aulsberry.

The Yellamen were on top in the second half and only a fine last-ditch tackle from Elliot Carrington denied Joe Grant when he went through on goal.

Moments later and Grant was again involved as he was brought down in the area and Ascot were awarded a second penalty of the afternoon.

This time it was Jon Bennett to step up, but his tame effort was pushed away by Aulsberry to give Bracknell a lifeline.

Both sides exchanged chances before Ascot made one of their numerous attacks count to take the lead in the 72nd minute. A slick team move ended with Ian Brooks’ powerful effort being well saved by Aulsberry, but Bennett was on hand to fire home the rebound and put the visitors ahead.

Three minutes later tempers flared as Taylor Elliott-Money was sent off for allegedly stamping on Grant, while Dave Hancock also saw red for his part in the fracas that followed.

It ended 10 against 10, but Ascot saw the game out with ease – including seven minutes of added time – to make it nine wins in a row.

Bracknell will be disappointed with ending the season with a loss but they can take great heart from a highest ever finish of ninth place.

Robins could also enjoy the fact they were given a mention in front of millions of viewers by BBC commentator Guy Mowbray during their live coverage of Reading FC’s FA Cup semi final against Arsenal as the first senior team that Michael Hector played for.
