The Hellenic Premier Division club have revealed they will no longer complete a proposed move to a new stadium at Blue Mountain Golf Club in Binfield, which is due to close in April.

And Pennicott-Bowen told the News he is fully behind the decision to stay at their current ground.

He said: “I’ve been part of Bracknell Town for 25 years and during that time there’s always been talk in the public about moving the team to Jealott’s Hill or Blue Mountain and going to a new ground.

“But we own the land here, we own eveything and it’s all here as Bracknell Town. We’ll stay at Larges Lane, enjoy it and look forward to the challenge.” He added the club has the potential to thrive – and would benefit from further investment.

He commented: “I’d like to see a 3G pitch out there and have all the local teams come and play here. Then there’s no need to go and play elsewhere, and you can make this the fulcrum of football in Bracknell.

“The club is 100-plus years old so you’re not going to turn up thinking you’re going to find a brand new stadium. It is what it is, but you can invest in the infrastructure and bits and pieces.” The club’s directors announced last week the Robins will no longer move to Blue Mountain, which Bracknell Forest Council has earmarked for around 400 homes, an education village and the new football ground as part of its long-term housing strategy.

However, the Robins’ board believe they are better off staying at their current home.

In a statement they said: “Bracknell Town had been in discussion for several months with Luff Group, who own the Blue Mountain site, about selling our Larges Lane site to them. Part of the deal would have included land at Blue Mountain for us to develop and build a new stadium.

“Unfortunately, we have taken the decision to reject the proposed offer for a number of reasons. We feel it is below what we class as a fair offer for Larges Lane whilst the plot offered to us at Blue Mountain has reduced in size over the last several months and more importantly the usable size has also reduced.” It continued: “The purpose of moving was to enable us to have all of the club’s teams from Under 7’s all the way up to the Over 55’s walking football team playing at one site. However, the offer does not allow us to achieve this so we feel it is in our best interests to remain at Larges Lane.

“If an opportunity arises in the future to move to a larger site offering sufficient size to enable us to progress then we will look into it but, for now, all our efforts will be focused on Larges Lane.”
